The Winter Retreat is all about Victoriana. I was inspired by the sweet porcelain half dolls in my collection to create this vintage tassel. The half doll's skirt is rayon ribbon fringe we will make. Her waistband is ombre ribbon with silk ribbon embroidered rosebuds. At her front is a cabachon rose of French ribbon with dangling buds on gimp stems. You can use an antique half doll you have, or purchase one at the Retreat. The workshop Saturday, February 11th is a lovely pieced Fan Sewing Book, embellished with silk ribbon and thread embroidery. We will emboss velvet for the front pincushion and bead a small tassel. Sunday's workshop is a French Reticule. It is unique in that it has four sides. Have fun painting on silk fabric and pleating wire edge ribbon to decorate the front crazy quilted panel. To sign up click the Registration link to the right.

Roxanne's Ribbon Retreat

~Join us in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California for a weekend of ribbons and quilting...and enjoy spectacular gourmet food. The Ribbon Retreat is held at the Inn at Pasatiempo, just before you reach Santa Cruz off the Pasatiempo exit on Highway 17.

~Create something new and feel inspired~take as many workshops as you'd like...

~The Winter Retreat is February 10, 11 & 12, 2012 ~ Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Once you've decided on your workshops, print the Registration Form and mail with your payment to Roxanne. Upon receipt, I will email you the supply lists so you can bring materials and mementos from your personal "stash" to use. I will also have my boutique at the Retreat with special ribbons, porcelain half dolls, photo transfers, antique laces & jewelry, as well as hand-dyed velvets and ribbons for purchase.

~If you plan on spending the night, accomodations can be arranged at The Inn at Pasatiempo. They will be happy to give you a discounted rate if you mention you are there for the Retreat. FRENCH RETICULE~Sunday, February 12, 2012 10am to 5pm $65

FRENCH RETICULE~In Sunday's workshop we'll explore the Victorian art of crazy quilting, combining elegant fabrics and ribbons to make your Reticule~a 16th century French sewing bag. This four-sided handbag has pockets inside to hold your sewing treasures and a drawstring closure. We'll begin the morning painting on silk fabric to use when you crazy quilt the front panel. You will learn how to surround a vintage fabric photo with pleated wire-edge ribbon, and embellish it with silk ribbon embroidery. Embroider a lovely fan with metallic embroidery floss. Use trims and beads, as well as jewelry pieces, to make it truly one-of-a-kind.
