The Autumn Retreat is all about the 1920's when fans were all the rage and carpetbags meant adventure. Friday's Retreat workshop is an Antique Fan Scissor Keep. It is bedecked with pleated French ribbon and metallic trims~an elegant place for your fabric scissors to reside. Fans in fabric decorate the carpetbags for the two-day workshop Saturday and Sunday. Make either a 20's handbag or the larger carpetbag. To sign up click the Registration link to the right.

ANTIQUE FAN SCISSOR KEEP~Friday's Retreat workshop is my version of an antique fan which elegantly holds your fabric scissors~We will begin by covering our 1920's fan shape with a favorite fabric. Then hand and machine pleat French wire-edge ribbons to layer with metallic trims. A velvet ribbon keeps your scissors in place. A tassel finishes the look.

1920s CARPETBAG Two-Day Workshop~Saturday & Sunday, September 15~16 10am to 5pm $130

1920s CARPETBAG Two-Day Workshop~Saturday & Sunday, September 15~16 10am to 5pm $130
1920's CARPETBAG~Reminescent of the 1920's, this carpetbag is available in two sizes: 18w"x10"h handbag, or the carpetbag 26w"x17"h, with its large inside pockets. Crazy quilt the outside of the bag with your favorite fabrics, woven ribbons and bits of heirlooms. Create fabric "fans" for the corners. Texturize fabric with free-motion quilting & pleats. Embellish with embroidered netting, trims and beadwork as well as jewelry pieces. The fabrics and embellishments listed on the supply list will represent what I used to create my 20's Carpetbag. Take creative license and use the following as inspiration... Brocade from an antique coat was used to crazy quilt and its lace motifs were stitched on later for embellishment. A beaded collar surrounds a fabric photo of Marie Antoinette. The French fan was made with pleated fabric and silk garter. Tapestry squares and vintage gloves serve as pockets. Have fun searching your stash and local flea markets for unique pieces to create your one-of-a-kind 20's Carpetbag!

1920's CARPETBAG~

1920's CARPETBAG~
1920's CARPETBAG~In Saturday and Sunday's workshop we'll explore the Victorian art of crazy quilting, combining elegant fabrics and ribbons to make the outside of your Carpetbag~this larger bag has a collar surrounding a fabric photo and motifs from an antique coat. Search your stash for unique ways to embellish your carpetbag. Wide woven ribbons were also used to crazy quilt the outside panels and texturized fabric. Use trims and beadwork as well as jewelry pieces, to make it truly one-of-a-kind.
